Regular Membership (18+ years of age)

If you are age 18 or older, you can join as a regular member.

The monthly service requirement is four shifts per month. Shifts are 12 hours and are available days, nights, and weekends. Members must also attend the monthly general membership meeting and the free training class. (If you have preexisting commitments that would prevent you from doing so, just let us know -- we can work with you!)

We are always looking for EMTs! Even if you are brand-new to Emergency Medical Services, we have a robust training program in which you work with two experienced EMTs to learn how to provide the highest quality of pre-hospital emergency care. If you are an experienced EMT, we'll schedule you according to your clinical capabilities and confidence. No matter your experience level, we can always use your help!

If you aren't an EMT, you can still join us! You would ride as an additional person on a standard two-EMT crew, and gain experience in patient care, first aid, and ambulance equipment.

For people who are not yet EMTs, the minimum certification requirements are professional-level CPR, also called BLS, Basic Life Support, Healthcare Provider, or Professional Rescuer. (Standard-level CPR courses such as Heartsaver or Red Cross CPR/AED do not meet this requirement.) You would also need a First Aid card earned in a classroom setting. You would enroll in an EMT class within 6 months of joining; classes are available at our building and within short distances of East Brunswick. We can also help pay for training.

Cadet Membership

If you are age 16 or 17, then you can join our Cadet program. Cadets ride as 'extra' members of a crew, gaining valuable experience in first aid, patient care, and interpersonal relations. The minimum certification requirements for Cadets are a professional-level CPR card and a First Aid card as described above. Cadets have a 12-hour-per-month riding requirement, must attend the training class on the 4th Tuesday of every month, and must show us that they maintain 'C' average or higher in school.

Unfortunately, space for cadets is limited. We hold interviews for our cadet program every April in anticipation of current cadets' graduation from high school, and we hold rolling interviews for any slots that open during the school year. There's no need to wait -- apply today and your Cadet application will be held until the next round of interviews!
